Rigid Boards

There are a wide range of rigid graphic boards that can be printed on.

So what is a Rigid Board?
Simply, it is a graphic that is stiff enough to be held solely at the bottom of the graphic and the graphic will stand up straight, supporting it’s own weight.

We can print on any of the popular rigid board substrates, or for those who print internally, here are some of the popular options and tradeoffs.
Foamcore – The least expensive Rigid Board, this material has a relatively deformable core and paper faces. This material is lightweight, and because the faces are paper, durability is low. This material is used for applications where price is the most critical attribute. We stock and print foamcore is in 3/16” and ½” thick. Foamcore in countertop applications is perfect for our Countertop LLT, while as a floor unit it pairs well with our Double U Mount or our Mightee Mount.

Ultraboard – Ultraboard is one brand name for rigid boards that have a more dense core than Foamcore. The face of Ultraboard is clad in Polystrene. Styrene is a great surface for printing, with a bright white surface that enables images to pop beautifully. Ultraboard is more stiff and more durable than Foamcore, with a nice smooth surface. The smooth surface is ideal for specialty prints including spot gloss. We stock and print Ultraboard in ½” Thick in White/White/White (front/core/rear all white), and additional thicknesses are available for quote upon request. The Styrene faces are ideal for retail environments due to their wear resistance. Ultraboard can be used with a rigid graphic mount like the Mightee Mount. For sizes taller than 72” H, we recommend pairing with our Skyscraper Mounts as Ultraboard can tend to bow forwards or backwards in taller heights. Skyscraper Mounts can be used for shorter graphics as well to provide increased support.

Gatorboard – Gatorboard is the stiffest foam board available. This media can be used at taller heights while still supporting the graphic solely from the base, like an Adjustable Double LL Mount or Double LL mount. The face is made using a mix of plastic and wood product (wood veneer board), providing a footprint some companies believe to be more sustainable. The face of the graphic is rigid to the point that it is will resist significant force, beyond which, it will crack. We stock Gatorboard in ½” Thick in White/White/White and White/Black/White (Black core), and additional configurations are available for quote upon request. Gatorboard pairs perfects with our Double LL Mounts and Mightee Mounts.

Falconboard/Reboard – Falconboard is one brand name for rigid graphic boards made out of paper with a hexagonal or honeycomb structure. This design provides a balance of strength and lightweight properties, making it a popular choice for rigid graphic displays, signage, and exhibits. The honeycomb core helps distribute forces evenly. Falconboard, like Gatorboard, can be used at taller heights with support solely from a base, like a Mightee Mount or Curvette Mount.

Aren’t there more rigid graphic boards than this?
Of course there are! We stock and print on 3MM and 6MM Expanded PVC which is rigid, as is 3MM and 6MM Aluminum Composite Material (ACM/Dibond). While these materials can be perfect for countertop applications, in larger sizes than countertops the graphics will bow forwards/backwards.
